The
Lago Preto Conservation Concesssion is a 10,000 hectare block
of Peruvian Amazon rainforest, to the east of Iquitos, along the
Yavari river. The concession is rich in wildlife, and is particularly
important for the endangered red uakari monkey. Researchers from
the Durrell Institute of Conservation and Ecology (DICE)
and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS),
led by Richard
Bodmer and Pablo Puertas have been
visiting the area since 1990.
